About Us

Our Mission
Schools for Humanity’s mission is to free human potential by opening access to quality education for all.

Our Vision
Quality education for all. Schools for Humanity envisions a world where everyone, regardless of age, gender, geography, or economic status, has open access to, and actively benefits from, quality education to better their lives and the lives of others.

Our History
Schools for Humanity is a 501(c)(3) public charity formed in the summer of 2006 after a group of volunteers traveled to Ethiopia in hopes of building homes for the townspeople of Shashemene. Shashemene represents one of the poorest towns in one of the poorest countries in the world. These volunteers were working with an organization which, at the time, had already successfully constructed over 140 homes for families, providing clean secure shelter where none existed prior. However, there was only one problem. Where homes were built, schools were missing. And so, Schools for Humanity was born.

In Shashemene, SFH volunteers worked with the local population to create a circle of prosperity where education plays a larger role in the townspeople’s lives. Many of the children in Shashemene and throughout Ethiopia have little or no access to quality education. Often, where schools are available, as many as 130 children share a single teacher.

Today, hundreds of underpriviledged students benefit from Schools for Humanity's efforts in Ethiopia, India, and soon, Haiti.

In the new decade, SFH has its sights set on a much larger mission—opening access to quality education for all. SFH's mission includes bringing life-skills education to students around the world. Where little to no formal education exists, SFH intends to utilize local and global partnerships to fill that void.
